So there I was, after a fun family get-together, feeling fine at first. But a day later, the familiar signs of a cold began creeping in—a scratchy throat, congestion, and that all-too-familiar wave of exhaustion. The worst part? I wasn’t the only one who caught it. Almost everyone who was there started coming down with the same thing. But here’s the difference: while everyone else was bracing for a week (or more) of misery, I decided to try something different. And within three days, I was the only one completely healthy.
Activated charcoal to the rescue
I’ve used activated charcoal before for detoxing, but I had never considered it as a remedy for colds—until I came across Dr. Jerzy Jaskowski, a Polish doctor who swore by its effectiveness. His method was simple, and after doing a little research, I decided to give it a shot.
Dr. Jaskowski recommended taking half a teaspoon of activated charcoal mixed in water every 5 hours. The idea? Activated charcoal adsorbs toxins and impurities, helping the body eliminate them faster. Since viruses release toxins as they spread, this method makes perfect sense—it supports the immune system by removing excess waste so the body can focus on healing.
I didn’t hesitate. The moment I felt those first symptoms, I mixed up my first dose. The taste? A little earthy, but completely manageable. I kept up the routine, taking half a teaspoon every five hours throughout the day (and night) while making sure to drink plenty of water.
Other remedies that helped
While activated charcoal played a huge role in my recovery, I also used a few trusted natural remedies to ease my symptoms and support my immune system:
Organic Migraine Relief Essential Oil Roll-On – I applied it to my temples to relieve sinus pressure and headache. The cooling sensation made a noticeable difference.
Organic Essential Oil Vapor Rub – I rubbed it on my chest and under my nose for easier breathing, especially at night.
Organic Good Samaritan Oil Roll-On – I applied it to my neck, chest, and wrists for its immune-supporting and purifying properties. The blend of essential oils helped me breathe easier and feel more energized.
Homemade Honey & Oregano Sore Throat Candy – This was a game-changer for soothing my throat (recipe coming soon). Honey is a natural antibacterial, and oregano is packed with antiviral properties.
The results: a faster recovery than expected
By the next morning, I already felt a difference. My congestion wasn’t as bad as I expected, and I didn’t feel as sluggish as I normally would with a cold. I stuck to the plan, and by the second day, my symptoms were barely noticeable.
Meanwhile, the rest of my family was still battling through their colds. Some were dealing with fevers, others with lingering coughs. By day three, I was completely back to normal—the only one in the group who had fully recovered.
Why activated charcoal works for colds
So why did this work so well? Activated charcoal is well-known for its ability to bind toxins and remove them from the body. When you’re sick, your immune system is already working overtime to clear out the viral byproducts. By taking activated charcoal, you’re helping to speed up that detox process—reducing the burden on your body and allowing it to recover faster.
Plus, charcoal helps with digestion, which can be a bonus if your cold is causing bloating or nausea.
Things to keep in mind
If you decide to try this method, here are a few important things I learned:
Hydration is key. Charcoal can be dehydrating, so drink plenty of water to keep things moving.
Time it right. Since charcoal can interfere with nutrient absorption, make sure to take it at least two hours away from meals, medications, or supplements.
Consistency matters. I took it every 5 hours like clockwork, and I believe that made a big difference in my recovery time.
Should you try it?
If you feel a cold coming on, don’t just wait for it to take over. Start activated charcoal at the first sign of symptoms and see for yourself how much faster you recover. Dr. Jaskowski’s method worked incredibly well for me, and now I always keep activated charcoal on hand—just in case.
